Rocksliders

Great work. I took my BEAST to Ben at BG Auto in West Rand and we decided to keep the present steps and put rockslider under it, which then keeps the looks of the car, but also protects the vehicle. Also sprayed the rims black with HAMMER and wow what a difference. Will put pics up as soon as Ben is finished as I have also done the brake lights at the back.

Just a question though, and I haven't looked into this at all, so I'm almost thinking out aloud....... ..... Using the body mount point to support the rockslider instead of the chassis channel itself concerns me a little..... If you take a big knock on the slider, and it pushes up, will it not make poeffies to the body itself. would it not be better to fix via bolts through the chassis

Cedrick I guess anything can be bent if you try hard enough, even the chassis rails.

I do believe the body mounts on the chassis are very strong, as they are reasonably think and very well designed and fixed to the chassis.

On Jeeps it is actually accepted practise to mount rocksliders directly on the body, not on the chassis, and it works very well. Serious rock crawling in Jeeps has been going on for a long time, and all the big-name US Jeep aftermarket suppliers I have seen build their rocksliders like this.
G-man does the same on his rocksliders for the Y61 Patrol, and it works very well if it is correctly executed. I have looked closely at the rocksliders on his own car, and it is obvious that they have taken some pretty serious knocks and done exactly what they are supposed to, as the body is undamaged. If there were suitable mounting points on the Y60 body, I might well have used them, as doing that has several advantages over mounting to the chassis.

I suppose indirectly it is still mounted to the chassis, just via the body mount which is fixed to the chassis.

Would love to see a pick with your patrol lifted via the jacking point!

David, I am afraid you have caught me out.

Those lifting points are effectively useless. The problem is that as the car lifts, the points twist relative to the ground.
The result of this is that when you woler the car, the jack touches it. They might however still be usefull as recovery points?

However it is possible to jack on the rocksliders themselves:
