Drawer System. Ideas.

I will have to check dimensions re back door, probably wont slide out. On my trip had it fixed but facing backwards. was only room for ammo-pan's width to the right. Might have to reconsider sliders for fridge then.
Agree the suggestion on same size drawers though.

My slide out drawer is 22cm wide to fit through on the floor. If you raise it above teh wheel arch you will get about another 15cm if you modify the door to open fully.

I got it at KELHs Upholstery Suppliers. They had a large selection and the stuff I got as a rubber base so is quite pliable and stretchy. In the photo above you can see what it looks like. It stuck down and went around corner very well.

I sent Kehls a picture to give me a product code or name and I will let you know. They have online ordering and delivery.

How did you make the frame? is it welded or some kind of quick joint?

Steve what did you coat the aluminum in - I think you mentioned black vinyl - is this a permanent thing or just to protect it while you built it?

25mm connectors.
i used black vinyl O wanted a complete back look with no aluminium showing. It has taken a battering!! I will probably come off at some point.

How did you get the vinyl on

It is vinyl wrap. It comes on a roll with a peal off backing. It looks very smart but I put it on too soon and did some damage to it.

I still have some modifications to do after using it there are some practicle things i did not think of. For instance it the car is pionting downhill the drawns want to close... not nice when you have 30Kg of recovery kit wanting to take your fingers off. Not sure how to do it but probably a sprung deadbolt that keeps the drawer open.
I also want to put in subdividers that are adjustable.
I also still need to close the sides off so i can effectively use the space at the sides of the drawers. At the moment when the drawers are out something can fall behind them.
More importantly the base I used was too thin. The 3rd row latch sits higher than teh rest of the floor and the base actually warped around it. I will first try cutting a hole in the base to accommodate it. Otherwise a thicker piece of ply for the base will do the trick.

The basic construction in a base of plywood and then on that is aluminium angle strips and the sliders attach to that with nuts and bolts. Then, the frame bolts independently to the plywood base. So, the drawers are not attached to the frame.

The top drawer's angle "iron" aluminium frame is attached to it by rivets. I used the angle aluminium because I was sure that if the frame flexed, you'd jam the drawers if the slides were not on a one-piece base.
