Need advice please

Post by Andre »

I took my 1995 Patrol 4.2 SGL for a service. The workshop reported that the HT Leads need to be replaced but Nissan cannot supply them due to the age of the vehicle. Can anyone advise please: 1. How serious is this problem 2. Where can I get HT Leads
I am an accountant with little to no knowledge of this kind of thing... therefore asking those that know.

I assume the HT leads are the HT leads for the spark plugs ?

If so, any decent spares place should be able to provide them. Think the biggest issue might be length (normal HT leads might be too short), but any decent autoelectrician should be able to make up a custom set for you without any difficulty...

Andre,

No big deal replacing them aftermarket then. Chat with your local spares place (Midas) and see whether they can help you. If they do not have cables long enough, go and see a auto-electrician. It will also be a lot cheaper than working through the dealers.

Finally, if the HT leads are on the way out, it is a good idea to have them replaced in any case - otherwise you may have misfiring and similar.

Hoop jy kom reg.

Most Midas and Autozone have kits fro various cars, let them start by bringing a you Skyine 2.8 set, they are fairly long- check the distribute side connection and length against yours, else they should have loose ones and you can make up a set from that . Bougi Cord is the most common brand.

I was able to get a set for the 4.5 from Motozone in Midrand when no one else including Nissan had. Still going strong 2 1/2 yrs later. Nissan can get but will be ex Japan at between R 1 500 to R 2 000 and up to 21 working days. Your dealer (stealer) is just too lazy to order. Motozone was about R 600 for Bougi Cord. If you want original Nissan speak to Shaun at Mark White Nissan in Fourways. Both Motozone or Mark White will courier to you.
