Re: LSD Oil - urgent
Yes, LSX is the one.I am going to try this on my bakkie's lsd.
Is Castrol LSX still the recommended oil to use?
But you can also try Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W - 140
This is what i'm going to use on my next diff service.

When is the "experiment" taking place??SJC wrote:I am going to try this on my bakkie's lsd.Ross wrote:Hi Russ,
The method that we used to resurrect SRXy`s LSD was based on extensive research, and input obtained from the Aussie Patrol site. SRXy is overseas on business at the moment, but may still have the links to the specific posts saved somewhere...I`ll ask him when he gets back. Otherwise a bit of seaching on the Aussie site will probably unearth something similar to what I have outlined below:
Basically the method we followed was as follows:
1. Drain existing std diff oil, and refill diff with Paraffin.
2. Drive slowly to a parking area about 100m down the road and drive in circles (did approx 20 in each direction). The idea of this is to make the diff do some work, and to scrub up the friction plates. Note: The idea is to do this a lowish speed, not burnouts or doughnuts!!!
3. Drive slowly back to SRXy`s garage, drain paraffin, and re-fill with fresh paraffin and repeat step 2.
4. Drain paraffin again, flush diff with more parafin, allow to air dry for a few hours with both plugs removed, then refill with Castrol LSX
5. After approx 500km, Drain and Replace
6. By this Stage the LSD was back in action, and improved further over the next few weeks of driving with the correct oil.
Not sure how much mileage he has done since then, but its over two years ago since we did it and the only after effect is a working LSD.
Is Castrol LSX still the recommended oil to use?
Was just quoted R4.5k for just opening up, and from there determine further cost

So if there is any other way to try and resurrect the LSD I will be very happy...
Then there is also this option http://www.roadrunneroffroad.com.au/def ... ubmit.y=17 and if we do a group buy it would be better as the postage is more than the actual part... I got this from the Ausie site as a way to "re-tighten" a worn LSD.

Re: LSD Oil - urgent
(From the website/link Dirk posted):
Nissan Patrol GQ and GU LSD Shims
Suit H233b Differential (Does not fit larger H260)
NOTE: WIll not fit small 2 pinion LSD from very late model GU
.55mm - the thinnest available to give you a little extra clamping pressure
The Nissan GQ and GU Patrols are renowned for having a great LSD, over time they do wear out though.
These shims are 0.55mm thick, If you install one shim with the original shim pack it should tighten your lsd to just above factory standard new, so you may have a squeal around corners on the bitumen, and nice and tight in the bush, providing extra traction in off road situations, without wearing out your tyres prematurely.
This is all based on your vehicles wear, we cannot tell you how tight it will be for certain.
If you want it locked tight then 2 shims will be the answer, or you may want to go for the thicker 0.7mm shims in our store, There are a lot of benefit’s for using shims to lock your diff compared to other low cost options
Shims can be removed if it doesn’t suit your need’s, they are cheap, can easily get more if required or wear out. 2-3 shims will lock the rear diff tight enough to keep positive traction whenever you lift a wheel off-road, It is a cheap alternative to a Diff Lock, Relatively easy to install with plenty of instructions on the forums with photos, If in doubt you can remove your centre and take it to a 4wd mechanic who is competent with diffs to get them to install your shims, If you’re not sure on who to use, ask us and we can recommend someone near you.
These shims have been laser cut and NOT stamped. Stamped shims have a slight turned edge making them hard to set up right. These are perfectly flat.
If you purchase more than one you will only pay freight on the first shim.

Re: LSD Oil - urgent
Dirk , would love a group buy, but the Patrol pickup uses the Huge H260 rear diff, not the smaller H233 rear diff as in most wagons, and as advertised in your link.
There will definitely be a kit for the H260 somewhere though.

Re: LSD Oil - urgent
Found this upon enquiry of Castrol LSX - It's, however, no longer available but I still get enquiries from my old customers, so I recommend "Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 75W-140" (Formerly SAF-XJ).
Found this thread on community http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/sho ... p?t=151947 so it seems to be the right stuff.

Re: LSD Oil - urgent
Hey Dirk, Ja, thats the stuff i mentioned at the top of this page in my earlier post. Thats what i will be using next.
I can get it at my local Midas for 85 Bucks a bottle (500ml).
My H260 diff takes almost 5 litres of oil unfortunately.
