What should my egt's be more or less on the following? 1. Cold engine idling?
2. Engine at operating temperature and idling?

Paul, I dont think there is a right or wrong number for this as every engine will differ. The real thing to monitor is what temps you get when coasting and driving hard.

Mine idles at around 170deg when hot, but I think the 3.0 engine will be a tad higher.

Josh might give you a better idea

Michael,
I just can't believe the temperatures I am getting. Just touching the accelerator with a cold engine and it reaches 400 degrees C.
I set my alarm at 650 but just a cruise up a hill takes it over that.
My prope is fitted on the manifold just before the turbo.

Paul we had the same with agarob ....a 30l like yours....cleaned the maf and did set up on dino all back to normal :mytwocents:

Thats very strange Paul, at idle it should be around the 200 mark max. I lambda probe at a dyno should be able to tell if the engine is running rich or not, but those numbers seem to high for me...... somethings not right.
How confident are you that the meter is connected correctly or gives accurate readings because even if I hold my revs at 3,000rpm when stationary I will not get 400 EGT

Michael,
I checked it today.
At idle with the engine at operating temperature it is 144.
At 3000 rpm with the engine at operating temperature it is 225.

That does not seem te bad in my opinion
The only other problem can be that your boost is a bit low which is what I found on Agerob.

Have you measured the boost yet? Should be between 0.8 and 0.9 bar at least, if its low the EGT's will be on the high side

Thanks for your input. I don't have a boost gauge yet. The engine is still stock standard with the EGR not blocked off. This will be done once I have a boost gauge installed. Keep in mind that my EGT probe is pre turbo.

Paul, you will see very close to the air box by the airflow meter is a small little solenoid with 2 or three vacuum pipes connected to it. One goes to the turbo's VNT actuator, one to the vacuum supply ontop op the engine and sometimes it has another one that goes to the intake pipe.

That little solenoid controls your boost and if its busted your boost will be very low. A boost gauge will be able to verify this. :thumbup:

Michael,

Yes, I know about the valve. I don't know what the boost is (don't have a gauge on it yet) but the turbo is definitely boosting.

Airflow meter, was cleaned when I did the engine.
Not smoking so I don't think it is over fueling.
