Ran car with no filter and even took the defunct airflow sensor housing off. No difference.

Checked everything. All that is left is the intercooler.

OR and this is a growing suspicion. The guy who had the troll between me and Pieter duToit pulled the turbo and put in a smaller unit... I will check model numbers when I am home next week-end.

Steve,

Your Troll's egts are running way to high. I have also have the same 4.2 diesel but with a Safari Turbo and intercooler system. On the last Dyno, is was getting around 95kw and 320nm on the wheels with translates to a fun drive. There is no way I am able to get the EGT's above 490C, and water temp runs to a max of 102C on long climb towing trailer .

I took the Troll in last week to reduce fuelling which in turn will reduce the boost, as the power i had was not necessary . I is now 90Kw on the wheel with 302 Nm.

Suggestion is that you get your troll on a dyno and get real numbers. From here the guys will be able to check what is wrong. I cannot believe that it would be your pump. Could be that the turbo set up is not correct or incorrect unit fitted. 4.2 LT of replacement needs a turbo that can deliver.

Let us know as soon as you get to the bottom of it.

Chapter 11

It went to a diesel injection and tuning specialist. Who the next day told me to come and pick it up... and they had changed the glow plugs. :surprised: And pointed at the turbo. So this is a big round about. The turbo was refurbished... the guy just scratched his head when I told him that. He had checked the injectors and they are good. He checked the pump timing and it was good (after I asked him and he did not charge me for that... so not sure if he did or just covering his arse) and he did a compression test, that was all over the place. not out of spec but uneven.

They could not work on the turbo but referred me to another diesel tuning place... anyway its going in there today. See what they point too.

So the guy replaces your glow plugs (hope you got the Midas ones as they are a third of the price of what Nissan would charge you) but the problem remains?
Surely he must be able to argue that the old ones are done? Else what was the point?

Why does he tell you to come and pick it up. Has he given up on the cause?

If it is not the turbo, it could still be the pump timing, given that you are not sure if this was checked by him?

It sound like the turbo was replaced with a too small unit.
But to make sure Measure the boost just after the turbo, before the IC, I have seen IC parcially blocked and easily rob 0.5 bar boost.
