Hybrid 4x4s are seldom a good idea. Only do the conversipm if you have to e.g. when the enjin has blown. You would be well advise to keep the vehicle as standard as possible. :mytwocents:

don't think conversions is simple, there is ALWAYS a clich...!!!!
I,ve been working on a 1980 Nissan Safari for the last 4 years, big ideas ,lexus v8 auto box etc etc
build the motor mounts and installed the v8,that was easy.....!!!
Then
sump hitting axle, lift suspension,ah propshaft to short, propshaft now hitting cross members, revcounter overreading and the list goes on and on.
End result,i have gone back to a recon L28 motor and standard gearbox and should have that vehicle running before end of this year Perfectly : http://www.patrol4x4.co.za/posting.php? ... =44&t=4943#
BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW THAN YOU DONT KNOW
Have a blissfull weekend in your Pure Nissan
I must add, in my case the motor broke. I did not have the stomach for a revitalised crap engine. I went the Lexus route. The one good decision was to take it to someone strongly recommended on this job. All new pipes and new wires and sticking with native G-box. Lexus autobox not strong enough for the tough technical stuff.

Experience makes you pre-empt the sort of problems you mention.
Eg use the Lexus SUV's sump, which is shaped such that it misses the diff. Also to lift body, makes you avoid the propshaft problem.

If done properly, it is reliable all right. But it ALL depends on the builder.

I must agree, modified is never as reliable as standard. A few years ago, I built up an old landcruiser with a chevy 350 V8. I bought the vehicle with the engine already fitted. Just swallowed money, I ended up spending double what I later sold it for.
ANYWAY THAT 4.8 is a legend

There are conversions and then there are conversions

But a "spoeg en plak" conversion will come back to haunt you
Don't do it because it is cheap

Koop a Safari as jy 'n speelding projek wil hê.

Groete
