Dunno where you live, but South Africa falls between zones 11 and 14.

Press the Mode switch quickly to toggle between degrees F, degrees C and display off.
Press & hold the Mode switch for 5 seconds to enter zone calibration mode. Leave the switch for a while to accept the currently selected zone.

If it stil misbehaves after selecting the right zone, try perfroming an initial calibration. Press & hold the Mode switch for 10 seconds until the direction bar starts to blink, then drive vehicle slowly through two complete turns to perform initial calibration. In my case the initial calibration & blinking display ran for about a week, during which the compass spun around on its own mission! YMMV, as I did repeat the procedure a few times to try and force a calibration during that period...

Temperature readout follows these rules:
  • Down tempature changes are indicated immediately.
  • Up temperature changes only occur after the vehicle has been powered up for >100 seconds and your road speed >24km/h. The temperature will then change by a maximum of +1 degree C every 40 seconds. We've all seen how the temperature just remains low even when you spend the whole day out on a 4x4 trip as a result of this.
  • If the vehicle was turned off for less than 4 hours, the temperature display resumes from the last displayed temperature (to prevent false readngs due to engine temperature).
  • If the vehicle was off for more than 4 hours, the display takes a new reading at startup.
