Auto hub not lekker
Hi Guys, need some advice!
The right hub is not engaginng properly, after SAC PE replaced two wheel studs. Could it be that they replaced the hub incorrectly or over greased if they did greased it at all? (Yes its not engaging properly, it "slips" when torque is needed out of the wheel, with a loud metal clang!)

Hi Phillip
Ek het selde probleem gehad op my GQ
When they replaced the parts after working on the bearings they replaced the one "cone" incorrectly with the lip showing opposite direction, the mechanism would then not lock properly everytime and it sounded as if the front diff was coming apart. We turned it around and no more problem.
Phillip search for "Loud knocking noise when 4x4 engage "
Hoop jy kom reg

Re: Auto hub not lekker
Phillip, you've got auto locking hubs don't you?
I wonder if it might be worth manually engaging it a few times?

Re: Auto hub not lekker
Dagsê al die slim manne,
On my GQ the Auto hubs are also not lekker!
I did a bit of normal dirt road driving at fairly high speed, 80-100kmph and therefore engaged 4H(hubs in Auto position).
Before commencing on tar, I engaged 2H again and reversed a couple of meters, actually more than I normally do +- 15m. I didn't listen for the "click" though.
After about 3km on tar I approached a crossing and heard a helluva noise from the front wheels, like a grinding noise, similar to shot wheel bearings.
After the crossing, pulled off the road and reversed again, and this time heard the "click", then drove home without any problems.
Nowadays when I engage 4x4 H/L the right front wheel hub will "click' with every turn of the wheel. I assume it's not engaging properly, but when torque is needed its quiet(engaging?) as 4x4 seems to be working fine, I assume, with LSD I wouldn't really know(lack of experience), and unable to see the wheels from behind the steering wheel.
When the hubs are locked(with the spanner) very thing seems fine.
The other day I opened the hub to find some loose spares inside WWW , looks like a profiled washer, it's round but not flat( if that makes sense), the rest of the insides are intact. I don't have a workshop manual yet, so I can't pinpoint the part.
So, my questions are/is:
Can one get spare parts for the hub? - I have not been to the Stealers yet.
Is there any spare Auto hubs maybe lying around somewhere that I might buy of someone?
Is my last resort to replace the Hubs with manual ones from the Oompie's connection, and are they strong enough?
Best Regards,
André

Re: Auto hub not lekker
Getting spare hubs is not easy, or cheap for that matter.
I am still waiting for mine (2 months)
I have always been an avid supporter of auto hubs, but it seems more and more problems are coming up.
I think I might start advocating manually locking these hubs whenever possible to get out and do so before driving in 4x4.. that way we can extend the life on these?

May the road be long.. and dirty.

Hier is 'n 'exploded view' van die hubs - miskien kan jy hiervandaan identifiseer watter parte jy nodig het.

Re: Auto hub not lekker
Hi David,
. Sal dalk weer moet oopmaak.
Groetnis

Re: Auto hub not lekker
XenoBlitz,
Are you getting Auto or Manual Locking Hubs? - The ones you're waiting 2 months for now?
Where are you getting them from? And at what price?
I also tend to be a bit skeptical about the Auto's. But they're so convenient...

Re: Auto hub not lekker
Hi Tinus,
