The Aussies often quote post-turbo EGT values (I think they prefer to install the EGT probe post turbo because it is easier). If that is the case here, their 550°C figure is not necessarily more conservative.davejones wrote:My gauge is non-digital, without alarm, so have to watch manually. Dont think ive ever been above 600d - 620deg. Frans will say that with correct set up EGTs up to 700deg okay. Members of aussie fourm seem a lot more conservative, around the 550deg limit.

In my opinion the car should have its factory installed measures to protect itself from self destruction. We as owners/drivers only have to get in and enjoy the ride. Where is the logic in all this?
When Gerhard fitted the EGT he did set the alarm and very specifically to 750 degrees, he told me that 600 degrees is a safe operating temp. I have tried out the EGT towing a caravan this weekend and while it is possible to stay under 600 degrees I did "achieve" 630 degrees. I have fitted the extra fan on the intercooler and still my car exceeds 600 on an incline if I put foot to much. I am going to change that alarm to 600 NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Grant said: My limit is set at 600 C and it has never exceeded this setting. I also had the oil pressure unit as well as the coolant temp system fitted. This has been an eye opener. Enjoy and be careful. In the initial stages all I watched was the EGT.
