Glas-run-rubber exchange

Hello Patrolers,

I want to renew all four glas-run-rubbers as my windows are banging against the doors when not fully up or down and give me a loud noise then.

The rubbers are already ordered and I hope I will get them in time so that I can exchange them in about a month.

Did anyone do this work already? I would guess it is more or less straightforward: open the door cover, cut the plastic, remove the window, brake your arms and hands getting the old rubber out and the new one in.

Is that basically it, or do I miss something?

Where did you get the window rubbers from ?
Mine is also quite tired after years...

Hi SJC,

it was quite a search for me but I finally found them at partsouq.com in Dubai.
The last time I looked (which was more than a year ago) the rubbers were ridiculously expensive (about 2700 ZAR/rubber) but now they were about half which I decided is not cheap but okayish.
I even got the wind rubber for the drivers side, which is the one you touch when you open and close the window - mine is a bit torn.
The parts are original and arrived in great condition, perfectly packed.
So I'll post an update when they are in.

I have the impression that the rubbers which are done at your car are different ones than those on my car.
The ones I am changing go around the whole windows into the doors.

After doing the work I can now tell the the work is basically as I wrote above: remove the door panels, loosen the glas windows and take them out (for the front), pull the old glas run rubbers out and work the new ones in.
You have to be a bit cautious to really fit them in correctly that they attach like they should.
For the back doors I couldn't loosen the screw for the windows divider with my shitty screwdrivers and managed to exchange the rubber with the window glas installed.
Drive the window down and exchange the rubber all around.
For the aft part you can push the rubber downwards behind the window. When you have done that for quite some centimeters you can run the window up a bit and pull the rubber down until it is in all the way.

To access the inner door gentle pull away the plastic sheet by pulling at the glue lines. If you do it gently you don't have to tear the plastic and in my case can just re-attach the foil afterwards without applying new glue.
All in all it took maybe three hours to exchange all four rubbers.
Now the windows don't rattle anymore when they are in an in-between-position, which annoyed the shit out of me since I owned the car.
