Just for the fun: that is how the distributor looked inside. What do you think - did it have to be replaced, or would it have lasted longer?

Hi Flo,its strange you only getting 5km/l
Were you heavy laden and or towing.when ever I go on long trips (sudwana ponta ) etc I average 6.5 to 6.8km/l and then i'm semi loaded
maybe if you get a change ,take it to Graham and do a dianostic tune-up.....he definitely get them to purrrr smoothly....

Hi Wilkie,
it had beenwith Graham for service - actually quite a time ago - and the consumption didn't change a bit. But I cannot always bring it to him as I am in Hoedspruit and that only part time, so it is not easy logistically to have the car serviced there, even if would like it to be done by him.
I think, the main issue is that the car is used for a lot in town. When I drive longer routes, it will come down to about 6.5 km/l. My personal record is around 6.7 km/l. But that was in KNP, 4th gear and around 25km/h. The overall average of the last 10000km or so is about 5.4 km/l. But again, I think that is due to a considerable amount of in town driving with less than 10km per engine start.

Re: Distributor cap, rotator and ignition leads - just replace?
This is what my tb42 distributor cap looks like.
Im trying to get to the ignition points but the bolt to undo the top part of distributor doesnt want to line up so lekker so i can loosen it.
Is there a way to rotate it without starting the car?

Yes.
24mm socket on a ratchet on the crank pulley. Make sure you only ever turn it clockwise so as not to risk loosening the crank pulley bolt or running the timing chain in reverse (the tensioner only works correctly in one direction). You will need to do that anyway in order to be able to adjust the points gap.

Re: Distributor cap, rotator and ignition leads - just replace?
I tested the voltage on the ignition coil, getting a 6v reading.
According to info in this threat: https://www.patrol4x4.com/threads/tb42- ... oil.22334/
...the voltage should be 9v Is this info correct?
Does it mean that the coil must be replaced?

Not sure what the voltage should be. Would have assumed around 12V.
In my opinion the coil should not affect the voltage.
IE, if the voltage at the coil is low, the problem is elsewhere. I think.
The more you post sbout this car, the more I think Ant needs to take a look at it...

Anthoney is not very active on the forum. Yes, he visits the forum and posts occasionally.
But as mentioned, I think either make an arrangement to get the vehicle to him (I know this is difficult considering locations) or give him a call. Send me a PM if you want his telephone number.
