USB music player

I'm picking up the Troll next week and heading back to CT. I've just noticed the music player is an CD type with no USB or Aux port that I can see.

I need some music for the long road... I have USB full of decent driving music sooo any advice where I can get a USB unit fitted in the Roodeport area like in a hr or two on 18th around midday?

Will worry about speakers later but cant drive +-1500kms without sound - any decent places there?

Even a screen unit with a camera (to be fitted later) would do.

Speed of installation is of the essence here

Otherwise just buy an FM Modulator for the trip and sort your head unit out when you get back home.

They normally take a USB at the bottom.

Yeah, I kind of agree with David. Don't rush out to buy the first headunit you see. Good sound is paramount, and a quick R99 for the trip will be far better than quickly buying a headunit that is not going to serve you well.

Anthony, do you have anything decent that can be fitted in an hour or so? I can always sort out decent speakers and camera at a later stage. If not i will go with the converter.

Same as the one above mentioned by David, used one for many years in my Terrano that did not have a SD Card or USB slot. The only problem while travelling was as you come into a new FM transmitter area, the radio may pick up a new station on the wavelength you have set the unit up on. A quick adjustment and you are OK again. It even displays the song title as it is playing!!! Some Martix Computer Shops sell them as well.

Cheap and nasty, but for around R100 to R130, it works fine, sets up in a minute and you it into another car (for the son or daughter) at the drop of a hat.

Then you get the Bluetooth ones for slightly more, that work as a handsfree kit for you phone and can play music from your phone as well:

AND last but not least, pair the phone and the radio via Bluetooth and use your phone as a Music Player - That will cost ZERO and set up in minutes (if it is a Bluetooth radio)

I found them excellent and only have small issues sometimes, such as that when I turn the car off, it would not always turn on automatically when I restart the car. At other times it does. Not a big problem, when is does not turn on automatically, I do it manually...

Very good value for money and works with the steering buttons... and took my fitment centre about 2 to 3 hours to install including fitting the reverse camera.

I would go for one of these. Bit expensive but I would invest in a descent headhunt if I am replacing the current one.

Thanks Malcolm, I like the unit fitted to your patrol. Will probably buy something like that for my daughter's swb Mitsu she tows her horse box with, doesn't need satnav but needs a rear camera.

I'm thinking I don't really have time to fit a decent unit unless Anthony can wave a magic wand somehow, so will have to go with anything that will play from my USB for the time being.

Rahul, that unit looks good and is a lot cheaper than the Caska I fitted to my other 4x4.... which doesn't seem to like Mp4 music files, keeps going into Video mode and playing them but I can't get back out of video mode and have to remove the USB just to play other music.. bit frustrating, probably need to convert them to Mp3

Ernest - Bring that USB with sound to oompie -- I transfer the MP3 to CD or DVD for you , and then you mos have music virri pad .. neh?
