What size tyres on your GQ?

Hi guys please help me with some feedback.

What size tyres are you running on your gq and what lift?
I know wheel offset also play a big role in wether the bigger tyres will rub or not but we dont have to get too technical. I got tjm suspension on my gq that is suppose to be a 2” lift.
I need to replace my 13 year old( :surprised: ) bridgestones, so busy gathering some info on what sizes can work.
Looking for 33’s for extra height.
My ideal size would be 255/85r16, but availability is very limited so that wont work..
33x12.5r15, i don’t really like the width also afraid they might rub, thinking 285/75r16 might be a better option?
Otherwise i will settle for 265/75r16...

If possible please post some pics of the tyres on your gq.

I have had:
31 x 10.5 R15. They came with the car. On factory rims.
33 x 12.5 R15. I had to remove the front mud-flaps to run these, as the factory flaps rubbed at full lock. They were on A-Line mags with a bit more offset than standard, but I don't know exactly how much. Made myself some metal mud-flaps, but they have hooked on rocks once or twice. One is presumably still lying in the bush somewhere.
32 x 11.5 R15. No clearance issues, but I missed the extra ground clearance. Same A-line mags.
255/85 R16. Still my favorite size, but as you say, they are scarce. Were run on early 4.8 GRX mags.
265/75 R16. These were free second-hands that came with a set of rims (4.5GRX mags which use the flat washer-type nuts rather than cone-faced nuts). Didn't run them for long.
285/75R16. Now on my second set of these. Still on the 4.5GRX mags. The rear tires do rub on the metal on the inside of the arch, but I do have more flex than most guys.

All the above were on the springs I got the car with. Don't know what they started life as, but by the time I chucked them the car was standing on average 15mm lower than standard, but leaning toward the driver's side by at least 50mm (measured at the outside of the wheel). So the driver's side was probably 35mm lower than new factory.

235 / 85 xR16 Not quite 33 but perfect for the GQ
Just need to get rid of the MUDS and fit ALL TERRAINs

For this size you would need a 6-7” rim?

I fitted 12.5 33 R15 tyres on 10" wide rims on my 1995 GQ after lifting it 3 inches.

I was happy with the looks and tyres never caught.

Here with 33x12.5r15 Cooper ST Maxx (on same rims):

Must say, the 33" tyres just look right on a Patrol :salute:

I read about 33" rubbing on full turn on mudflaps or even on extended wheel flares, but mine is not rubbing at all.
Must still test it while flexing...

Went to test the tyres to see if they rub on full flex... (at a "playground" close to my house).
I got the new tyre on the rear left, which is the only tyre rubbing slightly at full flex. 6mm spacer will fix this
Must say huge improvement from the worn 31" duelers to the 33" st maxx's.. one crossaxle i drove previously, I had to use locker, this time no locker required.. :blonde:

@SJC

Did you have to use a spacer on your OEM Rear Door Spare Wheel Mount?
What off-set are those 8J GQ wheels?

Thanks
