Electric Seat not going backwards

Hi Guys,
Has anyone had this issue before - my electric passenger seat doesn't want to go backwards, it moves forward, and the backrest moves in both directions, but it wont go back.
Im guessing its a switch issue, but me and electronics just dont mix, I dont understand that magic voodoo stuff. If anyone has had this issue I would be greatly appreciative to hear how to fix it.
Thanks!

There is probably a carbon buildup or something dirty on that contact point. It happens with the switches for my passenger windows every now and again. Might just need a good clean. I'm not sure how to disassemble and reassemble that switch though... if it's anything like the window switches they are full of small parts that like to go everywhere when you take them apart
If you get the unit out make sure you take it apart in an oven tray or something to contain anything that might get lost while you do it. I'm sure in the workshop manual there is instructions on how to do this.

Hi Graham
common problem, happened to me ... tried cleaning (As Craig says, tricky business)
I eventually got a brand new driver-side one from Marinus via Dubai, but could only get the one side at the time. I then got a second hand one for passenger-side one from Dawid V. Both gave excellent service.

Good luck
Cheers

Aha. Ok, thanks very much for that info John!
Maybe I must see if Ant can tackle it. I’m not spending R2500 on a switch like Tinus said in that other thread though! I’ll rather just chuck in a manual seat then i reckon

Ja I was having the same issue, but the gremlin seems to have disappeared for now as it's working again.

Haha well let's hope it still works for a while. Not often I need to move the seat position.
Do the Patrol's not share this electric mechanism with another Nissan vehicle? It's not that often that they produce parts specifically for one model, specifically switches and such

There's pretty much two possibilities:
1. the switch contacts have built up some corrosion and no longer make clean contact
or
2. the one motor is poked.
You definitely want option 1 to be the problem because option 2 is not cheap at all.
I've taken a few of these switches apart, cleaned with Wurth Contact OL then spray with Wurth contact cleaner once clean. Then a bit of assembly grease (vaseline will do) then put it all together and it has a new life.
There is no info in the workshop manual on doing this because its not supposed to be a serviceable part. It is a bugger to do, but it can be done.
