Andrew, I would say that Michael from SoJo Automotive would be the best bet, or Graham from G-Tech. They are our resident Patrol gurus up here in Gauteng. What seems to be the issue with the 3.0 Patrol ?

At this stage it looks like a compression problem, Nissan checked it on it's standard service. I would like a second opinion and depending on that result decide if the motor needs to be opened and repaired.

Another opinion essential. Hopefully not serious. Neighbour on my east compression problem small sedan 6 months out of warranty. Franchisor analysis (via computer) R111K to recondition. Ended up burnt valve plus all that goes with removing the head and R32K. Neighbour on my west different manufacturer LDV 250,000 Km poor compression. Franchisor analysis (not sure how checked ) could only diagnose after opening engine - put down R65K deposit to open engine. Ended up to be a serious computer problem that could have destroyed the engine with ongoing use. Computer repaired in the cape - all in was R40K. He has done over 75,000km since then and all appears good. Bottom line franchise mechanics are (mostly) dependent 100% on what the computer tells them.

Andrew, if it was my vehicle, I would be comfy sending it to either Sojo or G-tech. I know that neither of those 2 would bullsh__ anyone. They also cannot afford to mess up a really great relationship that they already have with the Patrol guys, as many many guys have their Patrols serviced and/or repaired by them.

Give them a call and chat with them. Graham may say Michael is the better person to do this or Michael may say Graham is the better person to do it. They all know each other well.

Let me know if you need their numbers.

Michael will do a pressure test and give his opinion. He is the diesel patrol man.

You can also try SAC in Midrand, as it is a 3.0l and Micheal a 4.2 specialist (would like it if Micheal will be willing to look and work his magic on the 3.0l's)> Contact Greg Justice, (Juice on the forum) he has a 3.0l and will know of someone that can have a look for you as well.
