Dune driving

I want to do the Namib desert trail from Solitaire to Walvisbay in my Petrol GU 4.2. My vehicle is fitted with a Safari turbo and intercooler. I have never driven the Parol in dunes before. My only consern is that the Patrol wil not have sufficient momentum. I don't want to became stuck on every dune. (I did the 170 km trip in a Jeep Wrangler 4 liter so I have some experience in dune driving). Did any body do this trip with a similar vehicle and what was your expierence?

Roos,
Ask Mayhem (Forum name) or send him a pm - I know he has done this trip and also has a 4.2 GU Diesel - but he has some serious power and torque - I think something in the region of 160kw and 600nm!! He has made some serious mods to his car but with a Turbo he imported for Australia. He has done the Australian Outback as well.
Anycase I am going off the topic - contact Mayhem - I am sure he can give you the necessary info.

Hi Roos
I did this trip in 2007 with my SWB Patrol that did not have the serious power that it now has, back then it only had 120kw and it worked very well on the dunes.Your vehicle will have enough power but you should fit the biggest tires that you can as flotation is the key to driving on soft sand.I had 35's and was running about 0.8 bar.
