Re: TD42 3 core radiator

Michael, slightly off topic but, did you find a difference in water temp between the 3 core and the 2 core radiator, especially on a long uphill with aircon on?

Cedric, so far it seems like there is about a 10 deg average lower temperature between the 3 core copper and 2 core aluminium.

I have driven on the N1 about two weeks ago and had the aircon on. We were 4 adults in the car and I was driving at about 130km/h and keeping it at about 500 - 520 EGT’s.
I was trying to keep the EGT’s high to really see if the radiator cools better or worse.
As I hit the top of the hill right there by the N1/R21 crossing the water temp exiting the engine was at its highest throughout the whole test and was 93 deg’s.
I kept the speed at 130km/h and the EGT’s went down to around 470 where I wanted to keep it for the remaining piece of road. I drove this way until I reached Old JHB offramp on the N1 where the water temp was 87 deg.

The test was done on the 14th of October just after sunset, it was quite warm that day and the aircon was also on.

Radiators... Copper vs Aluminium

Post by Tinus lotz »

So I thought I would start a new thread to keep some info that was posted in another thread. Might be useful to get more people's opinions on the matter.
I will move the posts to here.

Dunno really

What I do know is that the radiator can't keep up when I'm nailing it on a long uphill (let's say for 5 minutes or so) with the air-con running on a hot day (>30 deg C). Under such circumstances the temp keeps rising slowly & steadily. The Madman reckons it's seen 100 deg C max, so I guess it's not too bad?

PS: I also noticed a 740 deg C EGT reading when I checked the Madman just now! Maybe I must bump the boost up a bit to compensate for the wild fueling? The wastegate adjustment on the turbo is easier to get to than the fuel screw on the pump, so it makes perfect sense

Christo, I have seen some weird max values on my Madman so dont bet to much money on the 750deg max EGT's.

What boost you running on at the moment?
