Botswana December 2015
Hi,
I'm planning to do a trip to Botswana this December. I know it is not the ideal time, but December normally is the most suitable time for me to take leave.
I have worked out the route and am busy requesting bookings. Seems that there are spaces available - not peak season.
Is it very difficult roads conditions during December? - very wet and lots of deep river crossings?
Is it achievable solo or really looking for trouble?
I'm planning to drive thru (14 Days):
- Makgadikgadi Pans (Kubu Island)
- Nata
- Maun
- Moremi
- Savuti
- Chobe
- Vic Falls
Any good advice and guidance will be appreciated: biggrin:
Dankie,
Johan

Re: Botswana December 2015
I have not been there in December, but:
1) If you take the "ridge road" to Kubu, most of the road is elevated above the level of the pans, and apart from the last little bit, you should be fine. This road comes in from almost directly north, so it is a significant detour though.
2) MAun/Moremi gets most of it's water by drainage from the Angolan highlands, and it takes 4-6 months to get there. Thus high water in this area is in May-June. Actual rainfall in this area is as far as I know relatively low.
3) Savuti is mostly sand, and I think it should be OK
4) Not sure about Chobe area, perhaps there could be issues there.
5) To get to Vic falls from Kasane is tar all the way.
Wish I could go with you.

Hi Paul,
Thanks.
I'm struggling to get space in Savuti camp. Ihaha camp, I can only find space for 2 nights.
Is there other accommodation (Does not have to be camping, but must also not be overly expensive) that you can recommend in Savuti and Chobe.
Thanks,
Johan

Re: Botswana December 2015
Chobe Safari Lodge and the recently added Chobe Bush Lodge (same company) if camping isn't available is quite reasonable. Also try Waterlily or The Old House in Kasane - not big establishments and even more affordable - but availability could be an issue.
