What would be the best engine oil to use in a td4.2ti pickup with 200k+ on the clock?

I've always used Delo 400.....( not Delo Gold).... in my Patrol and in my 3.0 Petrol SANI. There is huge debate as to what is the better oil, so its all about personal choice. I don't like Castrol "High Milage" as I believe it creates a sludge buildup, I may be wrong but that's just my opinion. There are probably better oils out there, some say the Shell oils are good for our old school diesel motors. But servicing every 5000Km can be costly if you are using some fancy high priced oil...... not that the Delo is a cheap oil at approx R220/5L and needing 2 to do a oil change. On mine I need just over 10L of oil per service so I need to buy 3 x 5L oil..... :surprised:

I run shell 5w40 full synthetic on my pick up td42ti and change every 10000km my 99 turbo td42 I run shell 10w40 semi synthetic and also change every 10000km must say change interval depends on driving and what diesel I've been using been running on sasol 10ppm for about 1000kms must say really not bad otherwise Ill use total 50ppm. The use of low sulpher fuel is merely due to the quality issues I've picked up on 500ppm in my area.

If I leave mine till 10 000Km service intervals, The oil would be so black that I'd have to spoon it out of the sump.....hahahaha. But I also do a lot of start stop driving

So why the different oil between the two? 5w40 vs 10w40...
What is the reason for it?

P.S. My 4.2D het 733500km op
