Hi, I have inherited a double jerry can holder, and have mounted 2 jerry cans on the roof rack, I see that Front Runner have evolved their design of the holder since this was purchased about 6-7 years ago, can anyone let me know if the holder is safe and does not come apart over bumby terrain.

I have two made to an almost identical design out of aluminium and with the same type of canopy clip. I used them for years across some of the worst terrain anywhere in Africa and I never had a single problem. I very much doubt that you will have a problem.

Thanks for the reply, I will use them this weekend. First time driving with jerries on the roof rack, bit nervous with that idea.

Two jerry cans on the roof of a Patrol should really not be an issue, unless you have a lot of other weight up there. The other thing that has an effect on the centre of gravity is if the vehicle has been lifted.

Those brakets are good....just make sure that the braket going over both cans are the correct way around. There is a little piece that clips in to the strap holding the cans down ....also make sure straps go over openers like on the pic....i drive with 6 cans on the roof never had a problem

Sid,
They work very well but as said make sure that all bolts are tight. For safety I also use a ratchet strap around both cans.

+1 on what everyone said. At least you dont have to worry about trees knocking them off
strap them in and enjoy your weekend

Just for others to know, the jerry can holder held up well that weekend. only issue was that the pins kept rattling out of the openings, which is added locking mechanism.

Are you talking about the pins on the cans themselfs?

The pins may well rattle out if you don't use them correctly. The pin should have one end flattened and the other end should have a small hole through it. You need to put a ring (usually supplied with the tin) or other retention device through the hole. Incidentally, I only buy genuine German TUV marked cans. The other stuff is usually not as good and I have had Chinese made cans that weren't worth the cost of the paint on them! Also, keep a few of the rubber gaskets handy as they do eventually wear out.
Another tip - good funnel with a good filter in it (genuine mutton cloth - not the cheesecloth that is usually sold as mutton cloth - is a good option) is advisable. That way any dirt or debris in your cans will not end up in your tank.
