Y60 TB42 Missing

Post by Tabs »

Please help. I am new to this forum and is not a mechanic what so ever. I have a TB42 1996 Patrol (love the vehicle) with 250k km on the clock.

It developed a misfire when revving up. From time to time I can feel that all the ponies kick in for short stints but it is not predictable when. I have refurbished the carbs (still standard) replace the distributor cap, rotor, plugs, points, coil bogie cords and filters with no success. Pressure test on the first five cylinders are in the region of 134PSi and the 6th is 90PSi. Putting oil in the cylinder up the pressure to 125PSi (rings are on its way out but valves are ok?). 90PSi is on the lower end of being still in spec (according to the manual). While idling, it idles smooth with a drop of revs on all 6 cylinders when taking the spark away (spark is there). I know the vehicle is addicted to petrol but 4km/l is currently a bonus. It cold starts (only with the choke) without hassle with a big cloud of smoke and sputters until it reached its temperature (valve stem seals?). It is not using oil as far as I can see. What can be the problem to resolve the missing?

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like it could be fuel pump? Or at least, I had a similar misfire when I had an unsuitable fuel pump installed. I think I have one somewhere if you want to try it?

Thanks for the replies. Smoke is more blue/white than black. I do not believe it is a stuck choke. How do I check the altitude compensator? How many fuel pumps in the car? Only one mechanical?

Net die maganiese pomp,en glo my om 'n elektrise pomp te kry om dieselfde werk te doen is moeiliker as wat dit klink!
