Fellow Oilburners

Hi guys,

Its time for that intercooler fan. I scanned through the intercooler posts and saw there is a "wich way is best" theme going. So wich way is best. The fan ontop or under the cooler. Blowing or sucking? Has anyone done this test? On a intercooler

And while I'm busy. Whom of you fitted the piet patoors snorkel and if you have do you find that their is an air isseu. That you feel that your air flow to the engine is less.
Any other things worth mentioning about the snorkels will be apreciated. The holiday is almost here and I need to get these 2 items sorted.

Hi Josh

I have one of Piet Petoors snorkels on my 4.8 (I know it is a different model) and I am 100% happy with the quality (.. and I am full of @#$%@...). It had a template and was relatively easy to fit although it took some guts cutting a hole in a perfect panel

There was no difference in performance and my fuel consumption stayed basically the same so I would say it made no negative difference to the air flow. The main improvement was knowing that I can do water crossings without doubting my wading depth and of course a cleaner air filter on those long dirt roads through Namibia.

Josh, those fans will work either way. They are high volume low pressure fans, so it doesn't matter if its fitted on top or under the intercooler. If the air is restricted the flow doesn't happen. Mine is fitted under the IC, but it depends on the space you have available between the bonnet and the IC or IC and motor.

The turbo diesels don't come standard with a fan on the intercooler.

Through my years of experience just the following , blowing cools down and sucking heats up
