New to Patrol and about buying one. Need Advice.

Post by Sofiane »

Hi Everyone... New to South Africa... and new to Nissan...
About buying a Patrol... 2011, 38,000km... the gas version not diesel...
Need to be educated... only thing I really know are Landys
What are major breakdowns on Patrol? What should I look for before buying it?
Will be in Jo'burg...Places you would recommend for servicing car?
What about accessories? Are there many dealers that can sell seat covers, suspension, lift?
Not sure I will do anything to it but certainly want to take it anywhere?
What about long range tank?
Thanks in advance for all tips and suggestions.

If it is a 2011 petrol, it will be the 4.8 engine. I had similar questions before I bought one last year and my conclusions were along the following lines:

By all accounts it is as bullet-proof as anything ever made – both the engine and the drivetrain. You will pay for your driving in fuel but for the rest you are unlikely to have any problems with the car, particularly one that only has 38,000 km on it. It seems that about the only weak point is the rear differential lock vacuum actuator – which quite frankly is not a big deal. Otherwise, they do not break down. It is not a Land Rover (I still own to Land Rovers) and is in a completely different league.

Most accessories are fairly readily available – surf around the forum here to find information on what is available where or just ask the guys.

Other than for that, just buy the thing and never look back. I did and I have not one minute of regret. in fact, my only regret is that I wish I had had one years ago instead of a Land Rover… :-)

Having had 5 Landies in the family - different league, my disco felt like the Boss, with the Patrol you are the Boss , truth be told I think the Disco is more accomplished and capable but just not built to last.
