Correct Engine Number

Ok, so we are getting ourselves organised for that 1st time trip to Botswana, and with all my recent problems we decided to do the organised tour with Bhejane Tours. Anyhow, they sent us the list of things we need to have, tips for border crossings etc.. etc.. One of the items on the list is to make sure that we have certified copies of vehicle registration papers, and to make sure that the engine & chassis numbers on the car correspond with those on the papers..... well, if I am looking at the correct engine No. the one stamped on the side of the engine block starts with ZD and then the actual numbers are completely different to the no's on my reg. papers and the disk. (Does this mean that the engine was replaced at some time, without notifying the authorities ??)
Can any of you guys check yours and let me know if yours correspond - Also, where do I look for the chassis no. I might as well check it out as well.

Tony, it does sound like the engine may have been replaced. In that case, you need to go through a police clearance process. This may be tricky, as they usually require a letter or invoice proving where you got the engine. If it turns out your engine number is different, I would forge a letter from a private seller...

The chassis number is on a plate rivited to the bulkhead, inside the engine bay in front of the driver.

I think you are reading the part no the engine no of that motor is stamped on the head

yippppp - Thinus has it RIGHT -- you buy new heads for a ZD 30 .. you get it numberless -- so that you can stamp the original engine number on it. Standing in front of the bus - on the 'lip' of the head, on your right, shoeld be a nuber corresponding with you registration document
When they did your engine .. did they rteplace the heads ?? Then maybe mr Green did not stamp the engine number ??
Take it back woth the registartion doc and let them stamp the correct number there

Rob Green put in a brand new cylinder head, I think that's where I can see the number - also, the plate rivited in front of the driver has no chassis no. on it. Hang on, i'm gonna take a pic of the plate and post it in a sec.

Tony take the invoice of the new head and the car papers to them let them stamp it.....

I'm going to RGM tomorrow anyway to do a full service, repair two "oil sweat's"; sort out my sticking clutch and repair/replace of the load sensor that you organised for me. I will arrange all the paperwork as well.
I have taken a pic of the identification plate, and one of the area where the "engine no." is positioned - sorry the number is not focused, but I have put a ring around where it is.

That number that starts "JN1....".

The long number on the plate starting with JN1T is the VIN (or chassis) number...

Don't know about the engine number on the ZD30...

Ok.. if JN1T... is the chassis no. then that clears up that issue, and as Tinus said it is also on a plate on the dashboard on the passenger side just behind the windscreen. Thanks for that Pete.
