Steering Rattle

My Patrol's steering rattles between 70 - 80 km/h when I drive slowly - when I drive quicker there is problem!

I checked the wheel bearing nuts and they are tight! I lifted each front wheel alone and tried the move the wheel there is no chance to move it left and right or up and down.

Then I disconnected the one part of the shock on the steering arm and found that it is inoperative!

It is a OME shock and the only place I can find that had one for me is 4x4 Mega World and the charge me R2000.00 plus tax for it!

I then phone Edenvale Nissan and I ordered one from them for R1391.58 including tax.

Hopefully this will get the problem fixed because I can find nothing loose on the parts of the steering rods.

Kobus, the steering damper cannnot fix the problem, only hide it.

However, it could very easily just be a wheel balance problem.

Herrie, I discovered on my new Patrol that there is a certain amount of "normal rattle" in the system. I can only feel it a certain speeds on certain road surfaces. Part of it relates to the rubber coupling in the steering shaft. It may well be that a new steering damper will make it "go away again".

I had the wheels rebalanced this morning and the rattle problem is gone!!!!

I will get the steering damper on Thursday and replace it as well.

Negatief, 'n steering damper is nie 'n gewone skokbreker nie.
