1. What kind of Fuel consumption can I expect for this Patrol doing open road @ +_ 110 KM ? Ek neem aan as dit n 2001 model is dat jy n 4.5 het. As ek met my 4.5 die spoed ry, kry ek so 6-6.5 km/l. Dit hang wel af of jy n roof rack ophet met al die dinge wat daar op kom soos roof top tent. Bande maak ook n verskil. Ek het 267/75 op want ek het die kar met dit gekry. Sal seker as ek moet vervang groter gaan.

2.I had problem were the Battery power just started to drop during a short trip to Town. It caused the engine to stop. I had the patrol taken to a Auto elec who told me it was just a very flat battery which they recharged. On the trip back home it started to drain power again. No light came on for the altenator so why does it not charge the Battery ?
3. What is the best Fuel Type (Petrol Leaded or not ) for this engine as well as oil.Living on the coast. http://patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=1557
4.I do have massive oversize Kumo Tyres on the vechile which I will have to change to help with Fuel consumption. Any advice on whats best ?
5. Any problems that I should look out for on this spesific Patrol . It has 140 000km on the clock Ek en n paar ander manne op die forum het ons petrol pompe vervang.

I would appreciate all the advice I can get.

Check the starter motor. I've heard of a few that packed up.

Welcome to the forum Pieter

Battery/Alternator Problem - I had same problem soon after buying my previous 4.5 Patrol. One day while driving with lights and aircon the engine just died. I put off teh aircon and lights and engine went back to normal. A deeper investigation showed that whenever I put on something that used electricity, the engine died. There were no warniing lights shopwing battery or alternator problem. I was actually towing my boat down to Richardsbay at the time and had 2 spare batteries on board - so I changed over batteries and continued to Ermelo where I put in the third battery, and had the other two rapid charged while having breakfast. Anyway - I got to RBay eventually and had a new Bosch Alternator fitted. So, yes there is a failure mode where the Alternator packs up and you see no warning lights. Obviously if all this is happenning with having a weak/old battery at same time, the symptoms can be confusing - I would start by having the alternator tested, and if OK then replacing the battery. :mytwocents:
