Live axle unsprung weight

Yesterday I was reminded of how massive that front axle is. Going down a hill at speed there are some small speed humps (about four I think) to induce driver's to keep the speed to 60km/h. So I'm braking lightly. Each time I hit a hump I can feel the ABS kick in as the axle rises slightly over the hump. Disconcerting at first until you realise what it is.
