Easy Difflock check/test ?

Post by jan.dup »

Maybe a stupid question but ....
What is the easiest way to test if the difflock is working properly ?

ABS liggie sal aanhou flikker. As alles met die inskop reg werk, kan jy n axle twister probeer wat jy net kan ry as die diff lock reg is. Weet nie of dit so vrylik beskikbaar is waar jy is nie.

I have always checked by putting the van on the lawn or a gravel road ,and making a slow sharp turn , if the difflock is engaged, then the inside wheel will ripp up grass or on a harder surface, shudder. You will also notice the larger turning circle with difflock locked.

Jannie, as long as the diff-lock lamp flickers, the diff lock has not engaged.

Hi Peter

I beg to differ (respectfully!)

I have done Chpopper's test in the past in our back yard.
When turning sharply after engaginng the difflock, the inner rear wheel shudders / skips and ploughs through the lawn. Not popular with Swambo, but it is a surefire way of being certain the difflock does in fact work.
However, my indicator switch is not reliable. In fact it keeps on flashing after the difflock is engaged. If you taker the switch out of the diff I have learned it shows engaged when the littlle pin is "out" and disengaged when "in".
Mine is not moving smoowthly and after massaging it a but with Q20 gets better again. But after a few weeks it is back to its old habits again. I.e. difflock switch light on dashboard continues to flash, while difflock is in actual fact engaged. Besides the back yard test, I have done enough obstacles this way of late needing the difflock to know that it still works.
