Coolant Drain Plug on the Engine

Hi

Does anyone know where the coolant drain plug is on the TD42 engine?

Wanted to replace the coolant on my Patrol over the weekend. According to the workshop manual there is a drain plug on the radiator and one on the engine. I found the one on the radiator but couldn't locate it on the engine. Apparently it is close/beneath the exhaust manifold.

Thank you
Monty

I changed my truck's coolant a week or two back. I initially looked for that plug but could not find it. I guess the bull-bar obscured access to it?

Then I went for plan B: placed a HUGE bucket under the radiator, removed one side of the return hose from the radiator (LH-side bottom) and stood back in awe as the old coolant came rushing out! According to the manual my Y61 takes about 10 liters of coolant, and that's what I had to put back to fill it up. So I guess not much stayed behind in the bottom of the radiator ot the motor itself?

My truck may have a larger radiator (I've never seen another 4.2 diesel to compare it with), so there may have been a little bit of old coolant left behind. But it's still a lot better than not changing it it all

Oh, and I also ran it for about 100kms with radiator flush added before the change just to make me feel like I didn't skimp on anything...

Groete Frans

Thank you for the warning! I read that anti-freeze, brake fluid and petrol are carcinogenic - It causes cancer after prolonged exposure... :oldtimer:

Hi Guys

Everything went off like a dream, it made life a lot easier knowing where to actually look. A few things became apparent after I drained all the coolant.

1. There is no thermostat currently installed. I will try and find one as I feel that it would be better to have this in the system.
2. Patrols are very easy to service!
3. I was lucky (tall) enough to be able to unscrew the plug from above, therefore I didnot get wet!

Thank you for all the good advice!
