I am taking my family there for two weeks in December, and could really do with some more info as I have never been anywhere near it before.

Thanks

Peter, unfortunately I do not know it but it looks wonderfull.

If I were you I would drive down via Bloem Aliwal and camp at the cave on Balloch farm in the wartrail valley near Barkley east, then follw the route via Moshese's Ford Barkley Pass and down the L.A.P.A. Munnik (better known as Bastervoetpad) pass to Ugie, then drive straight down to Dwesa.

Balloch is a brilliant facillity that is not expensive and the routes there is very scenic. Bastervoetpadpas is also incredible, though not a serious 4x4 challenge.

Hi Peter

Me and my wife were there in December 2011. We stayed in Lubanzi Bay (just south of Hole in the Wall) and went through for the day. Was a 3h trip for 90km.

On Google earth there are a few gates, but the only one we could find is gate one in the south near Willowvale. There are grate camping facilities. Not to sure about the ablutions. Were not in one. Most of the people laid around on the beach next to the lagoon. Think the sea is a bit rough to swim in it.

It has some of the best coastal forests in the country and are very beautiful. You have to get a local guide to enter in to the park itself for a game drive. This prevented us from entering past the game park boom. You have to arrange this the day before at a small cost at the office.

As mentioned Coffee Bay, Hole in the Wall is about a 3h drive through very beautiful scenery. Can get interesting if it rained allot. There are also very nice places to visit south.

I also hope that you have booked already, because it is quite popular and one struggles to get a booking.

Hope this helps

One other thing.

If you drive trough Barkly East or near it, try and drive Die Bastervoetpad pas. It is certainty one of the most beautiful passes in the region, Naudes nek included. It starts on the R393 Co: 31-9.855'S 27-53.831'E. It connects to the R56 5km before Ugie.
