PIN TAIL TOW BALL

Hi, i am interested to find out if this type of tow hitch which uses the pin is good enough for recovery work. Reason, i have seen the use of the standard tow hitch and arent very impressed and even one came off. We never use this at all. I use welded lugs on my vehicle at the moment and have never had a problem with it. I have also seen people using the pin type as a recovery point with great success, but its still looks like it can be suspect. Hope i am wrong.
I am busy with a new bumper and the pin tail type will be the answer if it is rated. Otherwise i will have to weld the recovery lugs back again. I can use the large D shaclles with this.....

Ian, provided your towbar is strong enough and thoroughly attached to the chassis the ball and pin towbar will hold. Did many recoveries with both the Hardbody and Cruiser and never had any problems.

Hi Abri, can you do a snatch recovery with that or just a pull out. The latest ones look very strong.

Ian, make sure you have the heavy duty black cast type with a stainless ball and pin. It has a 3500kg carrying capacity. I wont promote snatching with it, however have never had any problems whilst snatching.
I must also stress that snatching is a last resort. I will always first attempt to get the vehicle loose by digging, jacking etc. In mud I will never attempt to snatch unless I have release the suction of the mud.
In short, tow with it, pull vehicles from the crest of a dune with it. Do it at your own risk however. If you have proper recovery points on the vehicle rather use that.
