Patrol 2005 3L oorverhitting.
As iemand kan help of raad gee. My patrol het nou die dag sommer begin warm geword op die hoofweg. Wie in Centurion area kan vir mens kyk. Of wat kan dit wees. Ek sien geen water lek nie en weet ook nie waar die termostaat sit nie.

Hopefully its just something small like a sticky thermostat. Maybe time to flush the radiator and use GOOD Quality antifreeze/coolant at correct ratios.

I stand corrected but Terrakunzi mentioned it started suddenly. Unless the pump settings were changed recently on the Patrol I can't see that it is overfueling.
Do you have an EGT gauge fitted??? .... if not.... me thinks an early Christmas present for yourself you must buy !!! If you do, what are your EGT's like???

Is your Patrol -Iron Maiden- not overfueling because of the smoke and heat problem?

Kobus, the Maiden has no water overheating issues and never really did. My water overheating problem was first when a bolt shot into the radiator and I cooked the head, and then when I fitted a NON genuine head that didn't have the water ports drilled out correctly. Since fitting the genuine Nissan head, the Maidens water temp runs perfect.
BUT
I do battle and always have with EGT temps climbing too high too quick. ( even with the high EGT's It doesn't seem to affect my water temp, possibly due to the massive radiator that is fitted). But yes the black smoke we saw at the dyno day is a concern and it does suggest some overfueling. I will be taking it back to SAC for them to adjust mine to a similar Kw and Nm curve as the other 4.2 that were tested that day. The settings need to be moved forward 500 rpm as I'm getting my max power a bit after 3000 rpm and the Maiden redlines at 4000. This can cause the water temp to rise, but then it would have done this for a long time.
Check the viscous fan..... maybe its not functioning properly ( not locking when the water temp rises)
This is also the 3l - 4 cylinder and not the 4.2l - 6 cylinder. I presume the 2005 model in question is out of the "2000-2004" motor issue, so I think the mapping will be still ok. I doubt it will go out of whack just sommer net.
It will be interesting to hear what the outcome is when its sorted out.

It is unlikely that overfueling in a ZD30 riding unloaded on the highway will result in overheating. By the time the watercoolant show the result of an overheated combustion chamber, the components in the combustion chamber would have melted/disintegrated long before.
My first reaction would be, WHY IS IT THAT THE WATER COOLING SYSTEN DO NOT EXCHANGE THE HEAT WITH COLD AIR? This is either:
Blocked/sticky thermostat
Blocked radiator/water channels in engine
Waterpump failure. The waterpump can fail without a visible leak. Check the impeller.

Before you dismatle anything, check the relative temperatures of the top and bottom water pipes between the engine and the radiator.
The difference between the temperature of these two pipes should be less than 10 degrees. A bigger difference than that means that water is not circulating correctly from the engine to the radiator, so if you can feel a real difference, then the problem is probably either the thermostat or the water pump, but could also be a blockage inside the radiator.
If you cannot feel a difference, then the problem is most likely somewhere else. This could be a partially blocked radiator (the outside, for example from driving through seeding grass) or aircon radiator air passageways, non-locking viscous coupling, damaged or incorrectly fitted fan blade, damaged fan shroud, lack of water or incorrect coolant mixture.
If it is actually boiling, rather than just showing high temps on the gauge, it could also be a cracked cylinder head or blown head gasket.
Of course, it could also be a malfunctioning temperature gauge?

Thanks for all the comments. My fan belt is a bit noisy of late. I wonder if it could have something to do with the issue. Especially if the aircon is on.
I drove on the highway when it first started. The aircon stopped working and the the engine cut out, must be some safety cut off switch. Then I realized the temp gage was in the red or over the red. I thought the motor went. I never had a overheating problem before. I waited for it to cool down poured in some water and off we went again.
I checked the oil and it’s not grey or there’s no water in it and the car has enough power and going fine. I really hope it a sticky thermostat if I can only find the thing to remove it. Will let you know if I find the problem
