Short trip report – Bush Break - Steenbokpan
Short trip report – Bush Break - Steenbokpan
My business activities have kept me hellish busy and have been hogging up to much time in my diary of late so it was time to point the Patrol towards the Bushveld and take some serious time out.
My youngest son and I packed “Makhulu” with all the nodige goeters for a long weekend and headed off to a private game farm in the Steenbokpan district between Lephalele and the Bots border. I opted to drive via Modimolle via Vaalwater and then through Lephalele to the farm – was a mistake as the section between Modimolle and Vaalwater is stuffed with Ry /Go’s and we wasted time waiting.
Anyhow the rest of the trip there was uneventful and we had our camp up by 9am. The entire area is very dry and dusty as can be seen by attached pics and I noticed that many of the warthogs around are real “maer varke”. In fact the only green I saw was the Windhoek beer bottles I took with. Weather was great, nice and warm and many of the indigenous trees are already shooting buds, no doubt rain will be most welcome and get things greener quickly.
I must admit that I spent more time chilling with the Captain than driving around and my Troll did not even have to be put into 4x4 to deal with the thick sand in the area. All in all it made up for a nice break and my son enjoyed the trip too much.
Our route home was via Thabazimbi, Northam and Rustenberg – roads are fine and it added up to a leisurely drive through the bushveld.

As can be seen, my Windhoek Draughts were the greenest thing around ..
