Patrol Outing - Proposal

Post by Grant »

Hi Gents,

Need your inputs. I had so much fun on the Rust de Winter trail that I cannot wait for the next event. I think I have found something a bit more challanging for us. Please feel free to add suggestions.

Suggestion is we arrive on a Friday evening. Long trail on Saturday, Short trail on Sunday and then we head home.

I will be contact them this week to get pricing and accomodation options for us as a group. They have camping at R 80/person per day.

Just do it after the month of September. Your turnout will be better due to freezing temperatures before then, especially for those who want to camp.

Hi Grant

I am dead keen, but JG makes a valid point. Camping in the mountains of the eastern/southern Free State between now and September/October is not going to be for sissies.

The problem with doing it then, is that that is getting very close to the 60th birthday celebrations. So I was thinking: could this be another option for the birthday. Looking at the poll I set up, it seems as though most of the guys are not averse to travelling longer distances. Also, I think our distribution is roughly as follows (in order of how many guys per region):
Gauteng
S/W Cape
KZN
E/Cape
Free state
Northern Cape

What if we hold 2 birthday parties: One at Moolmanshoek or one of the many other trails in that area, and one near George.

This should result in reasonably well-attended gatherings but with virtually everybody being within about 400km of home?
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

If we want to do a outing sooner why not concider SERENDIPITY - stunning camping - very nice drive - AND is in North side of the land - wont be THAT cold [but seeing as I dont feel cold, i can't vouch for that [Then we can still stick to P/ters proposal .. ] maybe just look at doing the other one in the Karoo [that is really central - and then the Kalahari Boere can join too]
For me - I'm IN for MoolmansHoek [even July is OK .. and Dwergie will have Chaka & Guru to warm the slaapsak.
