Patrol Diesel Fuel Consumption
Patrol Diesel Fuel consumption
Going on holiday this last December I got between 8.1 km/l with the quad trailer behind the patrol. Coming back without the trailer I was motoring, average about 120km/h and the fuel was no better than 7.5 km/l.
I made mention of the weekend with the caravan on the EGT Fitted tread. Fuel consumption according to Feully for that trip was 15.1 l/100km.
Read an article in the Caravan and camping about fuel consumption while towing a caravan. In this test that said that the Komdi 2.5 will go 1137 km om 80 liters while towing at 80 but only 723 km at 100. Huge difference.
Still, I am quite chuffed with the Patrol. Hate the new Diesel Price though.

Re: Patrol Diesel Fuel Consumption
Yes Izak speed is a killer on fuel consumption, and roof racks, trailers and such things only make it worse.
The reason is that air resistance increases exponentially with speed. Us guys with the Y60's see it even more than the Y61's because our car's basic shape is worse.
My best fuel consumption ever was strangely enough the tank between Mopipi and Ghanzi in Botswana, which was a lot of soft sand and game reserves, so virtually the whole tank was 40km/h or less, and I got 5.85km/l for that section. The whole trip we seldom exceeded 100km/h and the trip average was 5.7km/l, but my normal consuption is closer to 4.8km/l.

So Peter, as ek my roofrack afhaal, kan ek weer teruggaan na die 5.5km.l in plaas van die 4.8 wat ek nou kry...?

Sias I do not know how much of the difference is the roofrack, and how much is the V8?
More seriously, it depends on how fast you generally go, but certainly at 120km/h a roofrack is going to make a measurable difference.

Planning to do a long trip over the Easter weekend. I'll take the roofrack off and see what happens.

Re: Patrol Diesel Fuel Consumption
Hi Sias.
Groete
Louis

Gmmff - my petrolstasie se eienaar bestel elke keer vir hom 'n nuwe kar as hy my sien aankom. Die petrol joggies gooi in aflosspanne in want hulle voor-arms begin kramp.
