LAZARUS is DEAD!
Yes it is true...and this time I do not think he will be revived.
We were cruising comfortable at 100km in the rain outside Pretoria on the N4 on route to Mozambique. The car and the trailer loaded to the limits with all our camping gear. In a flash smoke started to emerge from the centre consol. As I stepped on the brakes....no brakes...and by then the smoke became flames. The time to a full stop were delayed due to the handbrake that had to stop the >4,5ton train. We jumped out with the fire extinguisher already in hand and strated to do what we can. A truck also stopped with another red bottle. Only after we emptied both red bottles and 20L of water, the flames were under control. Unfortunately by them Lasarus were destroyed in the engine bay and inside the cab at the gear lever area.
I doubt if the repair cost will be less than the car's value, not to mention the 70% write-off mark. I will keep you informed.

Dit voel soos dood in die familie.
En om alles te kroon , die slegste tyd van alles om te gebeur.
Gelukkig tog is dit net n dilemma en nie n tragedie nie, almal is darem oraait klink dit.

Nooooooo!!!!
And I so enjoyed reading the rebuild thread! Glad to hear that nobody was hurt and that you are safe.
Agree that it is a dilemma, but not a catastrophe!
Any idea on the cause? Electrical or hydraulic or ?
And then there are people like Kagiso - dankie vir die aanbod aan JG oom Mac!
Hope you are still able to go on holiday and get some rest before the challenges of a new year.
God Bless and good luck!
Herbie

Re: LAZARUS is DEAD!
Sad news .... and I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me 10 years ago, with an old VW bus. Glad the family is ok.

Re: LAZARUS is DEAD!
My condolences old friend, nothing we can say will ease the burden. But, have you any idea what could have started the fire?
