Bringing The Great Two Stroke Diesel Debate to SA

Post by Mrowka »

Does anyone here add two-stroke engine oil to their diesel fuel? If so, what have been the results? There has been a very long-running discussion/debate on the Aussie Patrol boards on this. :oldtimer:

To sum up:

Proponents of 2T say that modern ULSD fuel lacks sufficient lubricant for the diesel pumps in older engines designed to run on Low Sulfur Diesel. Adding 2T makes their older engines run smoother and more powerfully, use less fuel, burn cleaner and their well-lubed diesel pumps pump diesel more happily. They cite a variety of reports, mainly from Germany, not all of them in the public domain, in support of their claim.

Some skeptics claim that the oil companies have already addressed the lubrication issue in ULSD and adding additional lubricant in the form of 2T is a waste of money. Others claim that 2T oil will shart diesel pump seals, clog injectors, gel up in cold weather, and otherwise cause more troubles than it solves, especially if used over the longer term. This side argues that if 2T were so great, oil companies would sell it as a high-priced fuel additive.

So does anyone here have an opinion or experience with this? Or have I unwittingly brought an Aussie debate, a bitter debate where no quarter is asked or granted, a debate that tears families apart and even drives the once-loving boards of public limited companies to civil war, to the peaceful shores of South Africa?

Well, there are advantages and disadvantages to adding T2 oil to the fuel.... I'm NOT going to get into the details, but as a mechanical engineer I strongly recommend you put ONE bottle of T2 oil with every 80 litres of diesel..

I'm not debating the point (because the intricacies get VERY boring after the third or so reply to someone saying how good fuel has become or how the T2 oil is bad for the environment or how it can clog up.. blah blah blah), if you feel you don't want to do it, then don't, I'm just giving my two cents worth.

Yes, I realise it doesn't clarify your question, but just say yes and move on.
May the road be long.. and dirty.

Yeeees?

So how much is one bottle of 2T? Anyway, in spite of my tone I wasn't trying to start a fight so much as learn something from any discussion that may ensue.

I did one trip in the Maiden 4 weeks ago .... without adding 2 stroke oil, then 2 weeks later I went again, this time before leaving and putting diesel in I put in about 150ml of 2 stroke oil. I have been doing this for years in my old Isuzu 280DT with 500 000 km and still original pump, turbo and motor, used to get 150ml every second tank fill. This was the first time I gave the Maiden the extra lubrication in her injector pump.... hmmm doesn't sound above belt hey?.... ... But what a difference.... I noticed there was much less smoke and a much quieter motor !!!..... So I will continue to do this every second tank fill !!

I believe it works...the motor feels better in my opinion
