So anyway, CT was covered in a blanket of cloud and drizzle today, and coming over Ou Kaap Se Weg was foggy as a Rusta's living room, so naturally, Lights on. Got to the other side, parked up and needless to say i left my lights on...came out,battery...DEAD! F.................ck. Considering i'd parked on what can only be described as flat ground,and with no one around to give me a jump, i new my task ahead would be a tough one. Ever tried pushing a patrol? Well i have, its heavy, flipping heavy. But i got it to a slight gradient which helped, and kicked it in 3rd, .....good to go!!! Never again, heaviest car ever i promise you! hahaha

Hi, Happened to me in the past. Installed small practical headlight warning circuit. Makes big noise when the ignition is turned off while the lights are still on. I have attached small diagram. Hope u can view it.

2nd battery remains best option but space an issue.

@Russ: I feel your pain, as I've done the same too many times. Biggest worry would be doing that doer and gone on a west coast beach with no inclines.

@Mammoth: Thanks for the diagram!

No Problem. only a pleasure!

I must admit that this circuit has one shortcoming. If you do want to have your lights on without a key in the ignition (For instance shedding light at night in a campsite)there is that constant beep that gets on your nerves. I once built a simmilar circuit that had a little bypass button. If I can find I will post it as well.

Who ever tried that trick of jacking it up? I read about it, never tried it.

You jack up one of the rear wheels, and fit a rope around it. Wind it a few times around so that it pulls tight. Switch on, put in third, na difflocks and handbrakes. Then yank really hard on the end of the rope. It should turn the wheel that will turn the motor over enough to puff into life, a bit like starting an old twostroke diesel motor. That is the theory annyway. Probably a good idea to chock the wheels...

A proper use for the key in the ignition buzzer if you've disconnected it.
