4.8 GRX Sunroof Switch

Post by Clem »

Hey guys, more than ten years in with my Patrol 4.8 GRX and only 90,000km and I have a few small things to start sorting out. One is that the switch that opens and closes the sunroof has died - it opens it but doesn't close it. Having open the roof tray in which it is contained, I see that it is a replaceable switch. Is it dealer only?

And while I am at it - about those floppy secondary sunvisors...

I guess the issue is probably the same as we have with the window winder switches, and a bit of cleaning and re-greasing will probably solve the issue. The plastic gets brittle though and it's hard to open the switches without breaking them. I believe Ant heats them up with a hair drier beforehand.

You could try it yourself, or you could ask Ant to do it for you (zero79 4double9 7692), or Dawid Volschenk might be able to help you with a second-hand one (zero83 4double9 15double8).

As for the visors, Dawid might be able to help there as well?

Hello Peter. Thank you very much indeed. It's rather odd for such a rarely used switch to die. Maybe I'll just try some electrical spary on it first.

If you do opt to open them, be careful. The switches use tiny ballbearings in their mechanisms. If you open them "aggresively" (for want of a better word - ie: you battle to get it open) they can shoot all over the place.

Chat to Cedric or myself.

We both fitted the roof console to our GL models that do not have a sunroof.

I took my switch out and fitted a microphone for my hands-free kit in it's place. The switch may still be in my vreeslik baie deurmekaar store room along with all manner of other extra bits & pieces that I should throw away but never do.

Maybe Cedric still has his switch living in his console? You could then switch your switch for his switch (sorry, could not stop myself there!) :rolling:

hmmmm... that was a long time ago. I think mine didn't have the switches, just a plastic blanking plate, but I could be wrong. I also fitted the hands free mic into the one hole where the switch would go. I'll have a look in my box of magic tricks that has odds and sodds in it.

Damn, I don't have a magic box like Cedric.

Which means that I will have to go digging around in my store room where there are soooo many things to sidetrack a person like me...
