I should have accepted your offer for a quick fitting Peter. I want it powder coated, but I want to see what it looks like 2 so after picking it up I rushed home for a quick fitting. 30 Minutes later I accepted that I lost and will now have to take it to the powder coaters first.
Two problems arose, one was the little brike pipe on the top of the diff, wheel side, does the U bolt go over or under it. But that was not the main problem. The #$%^ nut kept falling into the $%^&*

steel part covering the diff. Then it was dismantle every flippen thing again to get the bolt out. Then to get my export banana size fingers into that little space again for the little nut that fell into the $%^&*

steel part covering the diff. Then it was dismantle every flippen thing again to get the bolt out. Again and again and again.
So now it is in the Patrol on its way to the powder coaters. Sight unseen.

Hi Izak
I guess my fingers are a little thinner than yours as I managed to retrieve the bolt.
On mine the U bolt fitted over my braike pipe that goes over the diff on the wheel side.
It does not touch it but gets very close.
Hope thats right Peter?

I am not sure that that pipe runs in exactly the same location on all versions of the Patrol. On mine the U-bolt fitted under the pipe. I have not fitted one to a Y61 yet, only held one in place to check that it would fit.
Izak, next time the nut falls in there, just use the spanner to slide it out. I did it four times.
My suggestion is to fit the plate, then fit the U-bolt closest to the suspension. Fit the bottom nut just a couple of turns, as this is the one most likely to fall in. Then the top nut, again just a couple of turns by hand. Then the other side's bottom nut and then it's top nut, and finally tighten all nuts.
In this way, you always maintain just enough clearance to be able to retrieve a dropped nut.
I apologise that it is slightly tricky to fit, but I wanted to protect those nuts as well as possible.

I use one of these clever tools to retrieve dropped bolts:
