Yes, EP is diff oil. Specefically hypoid diff oil.

Hmmmm... now you have me worried !!!! It was a long time ago, nearly 10 ears !! If I recall correctly I did gearbox and diff (front and back) oils change. I cannot recall what I put in as it was just after I got the the Patrol. Everything still works well, gearbox is as smooth as a .... well very smooth 
. Its probably time to do a full oil change on everything again.

Got some 75w90 gl4 spec gearbox oil...
Constructed a lid with valve and pipe to pump the oil into the gearbox..
Then i discovered this.. 
Think i must first source a new gearbox drain plug incase i cant get this one back on again...that is now if can manage to open it without stripping it more than it already is...

And now Nissan cant find the drain plug from my vin number... 
Is there any difference between tb42, td42, tb45 gearbox drain plugs?
