Yeehaa - the radiator is in! And also the new RF wheel bearings and seal that I've been meaning to fit for the past year or so...

The aluminium radiator probably weighs only a third of the old, fat copper monstrosity. If nothing else, I'll save a lot of weight.

I'll reset my Madman stats and take it for a spin tmoorrow. We've got a nice 37 deg C forecast for Pta, so it's going to be a good day for testing :thumbup:

Michael, I'm on 1 bar at the moment. Not sure how far I can go on the standard fuel pump?

Awesome Christo!

I was also quite surprised how heavy the old copper was compared to the new aluminium one. Its also much thinner.

The boost is an area which Im not 100% sure on.....specially on a standard originally N/A engine. The pump should be able to deliver enough fuel to boost 1.2 bar, but the pistons are my concern. I actually dont know how much punishment they can take as they were not designed for a turbo.

Im have another td42 (original NA) engine here that I have stripped where every piston has cracked on exactly the same place which indicates that they could just not tollerate the extra heat and preasure from the turbo.
In the engine's defense there was no madman fitted so its hard to tell if it was heat, preasure or both that killed the engine.

Having said that Christo, I think the main killer of a td42 is high EGT's. Personally I dont want to take a N/A engine over 600 EGT's and a rebuilt engine with turbo pistons over 670.

So its a hard choice on your side to get to the ideal EGT's, turn the boost up or turn the fuel down. Turning the fuel down is never a happy moment for me as you loose quite a bit of ponies

Diesel temp te hoog...ek glo nie een val julle koolstoof drywers het nog ooit n fuel cooler in gesit nie
Julle moet onthou die return fuel wat terug gepomp word tank toe is warm en hoe langer jy ry hoe warmer word die diesel in die diesel tank en hoe minder diesel in die tank hoe vinniger word dit warm
Jy moet miskien n inline fuel cooler op die return pyp sit :mytwocents: :mytwocents:

Errol, ek glo nie daai is van injectors nie maar eerder over fueling of te ryk fuel setting op die pomp wat hoe EGT's tot gevolg het. Al 6 die pistons het presies dieselfde gekraak en die kaans vir 6 injectors om ter selfde tyd te fail is baie onwaarskynlik.

Ek sou se op n common rail sal n voutiewe injector daai tot gevolg het omdat hy kan over fuel. N pop injector kan eintlik nie over fuel nie omdat sy fuel quantity deur die diesel pomp bepaal word. Hy sal net n slegte spray pattern he indien hy fail.

Die ding is daai engine is n gewone N/A engine wat ge turbo is sonder om die pistons te upgrade na turbo pistons toe. Niks daarmee vout nis, maar jy moet lae EGT's behou as jy dit doen anders gaan die pistons dit nie maak nie.
