Geez.....R3,500 just to remove and install the pump is very steep

I have been through some excersizes in the past and let me tell you this, if your injectors are not giving you problems.......leave them.

Russ, to remove the injector pump is really not that difficult, awkward yes, but difficult .... hell no, and definitively not R3500 difficult. I understand Bosch , and anyone is in business to make money, but in my opinion that is a little steep for just removal and refitting. If it includes a full dyno resetting to get the timing etc set up 100%, well then maybe.... but that is a BIG maybe.

I'm not sure about overhauling the IP, so cannot comment.

Injectors well here I differ slightly from Michael slightly. My original motor burnt a hole through the piston due to a bad injector ( was dripping more than spraying ), as I don't think that they were ever changed in 180 000 Km. Now luckily our "old school" diesels are very forgiving, but if your injectors are over 80 - 90 000Km old I would change them. Piece of mind is a wonderful sensation. I paid R 425 per injector a good few years back, so R500 for an injector is still fair. This doesn't need to be done now either, as they are fairly easy to change at any time.... especially on yours being N/a ( no IC and piping to remove to get space to work).

I would get a price from Frans. He will probably be able to test your injectors... and honestly tell you, yes they are still good or no they are tired. I'm not sure if he can service the IP, you will have to check with him...

I get what you are saying Cedric and I must have maybe elaborated a bit so here goes

If your Patrol starts up fine in the morning and doesn't misfire or smoke for the first 30 seconds or so they probably are ok
Bad injectors tend to drip and loose pressure over night, so on startup they need a little time to get the right pressure from the pump.
Also they tend to send out puffs of smoke out the exhaust and not an even amount if that makes sense in any way.

The reason I am saying this is because I sent a set of injectors to Bosch last week just to test, clean and set the pressures correctly. The injectors was 10 times worse after that and I had to remove them again and sent them in to do it over and set the pressures to what I gave them.
So in the end, something that was fine and had no problem cost me about 5 hours of labor to get it back to its original state.

haha... yeah that is true... sometimes companies don't take pride in their work.... surprised that Bosch made a balls up, they are usually pretty good.

I do agree with your elaboration of this. I would also leave well alone if the age/mileage is below 60-70 000Km, but Injectors if close to the 100 000Km mark surely must need some maintenance. They take a pounding and are feeding diesel under "low" pressure a few hundred times a minute or if rev'ed at 2000 rpm, then that injector is firing at about 8 bursts a second.

This particular TD42 has 130,000km on the clock and is still sporting its original injectors as they came from the factory and Bosch claims they do not need to be replaced. I was also surprised that they didn't get it right this time around, they did some previous work for me including my own Patrols pump and injectors and it is still running 100% heading for 40,000km

But I guess 100,000km is a good number to have them checked out if you really want peace of mind

My Truck i bought from almost new (Demo model).

Never battles in the mornings
Never puffs any smoke whatsoever, ever.
Never smokes in the morning etc either.

Injectors still original. 257 000km now on the motor.

Auzzies say leave alone if you dont have any issues.

I do however feel like my fuel consumption has deteriorated over the last 3 years very very slowly.

For now im not interested in injectors really. I just want to get the pump seals replaced at a fair price.
