Op die teerpad, en mits alles op die kar reg is, behoort mens glad nie eers agter te kom of 'n kar 'n steering damper of het of nie.
Die job van die steering damper is om te keer dat die stuurwiel nie jou duime afruk as jou een wiel 'n klip of stomp (of gat) tref nie.
So Oom MAc moet nou maar net die woorde van die ou Land-Rover eienaars-gidse volg, en die duime buitekant die stuurwiel hou (soos Oom in elk geval doen).

Ive also replaced the steering damper en still no difference..mstill rattling very irritatingly...

Marius -- replace the wheel bearings and check for play in the drive shafts front [Says Ox .. I'm not too sure of that bit .. ???]

I've also got that severe steering rattle, wheel balancing helps alot. I've found in the past on my 99 model that replacing both track bar(panar rod ) bushes as well as the lower arm bushes x4 that actually holds the diff, they get worn left to right. Even if there is only a little play it will multiply considerably to the steering. If that all fails wheel bearing and turn knuckle bearing are next. There are shims in the turn knuckle bearing holders and if removed tightens things up nicely.

You'll get play and shimmy too if either the Panhard rod mounting bolt is anything less than extremely tight or the hole the bolt goes through is worn in any way - in which case you'll have to shim it.
