Cedricster, are you VERY sure the head gasket's gone? There are all manner of tests to see if combustion gases/oil makes it into the coolant, or if coolant/exhaust gases make their way into the oil, etc. This is not 100% proof, but better than the schlep of ripping off the head & paying for a new gasket for no reason...

Water out of the tail-pipe is normal if the exhaust plumbing has cooled sufficiently to condense the leftover moisture in the exhaust gases.

Don't get paranoid on us, dude - you're giving the TD42 motors a bad name

Good day Cedric
First, sorry I missed your call. Then I forgot to phone back and only remember after I read the post.
To skim the head the 3rd time should not have a affect in your case. Its a flat head, the only thing that will change is the rocker ratio on the valve train. But you can shim the rocker shaft if needed.
Before you do all of this.Check the sleeves,The block was sleeved resently so make sure the sleeves are still sitting proud in the block. If one or so sinked, thats your problem.First make sure of that.

Unfortunately I am convinced to headgasket blew. After filling up the radiator while idling the motor, and then turning off the car and leaving it for a few minutes, I started the engine only to find it idling VERY rough and probably on 5 cylinders.

So I stripped the head over the weekend, and when I took the exhaust manifold off I found water marks/droplets on the no 2,3 and 5 ports. When I took the head off, i couldn't really see from which water port the leak came from..... but .... after cleaning the head I noticed this !!!!

Small crack between the precom and valve !!!

all this %#@%^*&# because of a bolt that somehow smacked into the inside of the radiator. I cant find anyplace where a bolt is missing anywhere in the engine bay, but know it was a bolt because the fan has a slight indentation on its leading edge and thread indentations on the side of the bladeas it spun into the radiator..... can you believe this ????? This must be one of the most impossible scenario's EVER to have happen !!!

Frans.... Whats your opinion on this head??...... as for the sleeves, they look almost flat with the block. How much above the block should they be? If they need to be lifted, I presume the only way is to send the block inso they can be pressed out a bit.... or is there another way to do this without having to strip off everything else to take the block out .....again !!!!

I also noticed that some of the precoms were loose in the head.... Is this normal?? They weren't wobbly loose but they were definitely not a snug tight fit??
Regards

Good day
The sleeves flat with the block are ok,they can not be lower than the deck of the block.
My head are scrap. The precoms must sit tight. Are they craked or the head. For some reason I cannot open the pics.

The precoms are perfect with no cracks at all. The main crack is on the head itself from the precom to the valve seat. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll mail you a photo.

Frans..... The 4.2 Patrol Pick Up that comes out standard with the turbo..... Do you know if that head is exactly the same as our 4.2 N/A ??? if not would it be better to use that type of head, and would it fit??

Anybody know where I can get a head for a reasonable price.... I'm a bit scared to call Nissan..... WWW
