The only issue was getting decent quality used oil and then getting it to him and then getting it back to my place. It would have cost me the same as buying normal diesel from the garage. Then along came a company who was referred to my father in law that supplies bio diesel. My Father in Law drives a 3.2L diesel Pajero (Direct injection motor). To date he has had no problems. He puts R200 garage diesel in with the rest Bio diesel. This is for easier starting during the winter months when his car sleeps outside.
I bought 75 L of the bio diesel as my tank was nearly empty ( had about 15 odd litres of diesel left in the tank) and on Friday night filled up my Patrol. Saturday morning at 07:00 I had to drive to Ruimsig for my sons rugby game. I let the glow plugs do their normal cycle, and cranked the ol' Iron Maiden over.....started straight away !! I reversed out of my garage, opened the gate and off we went. The motor, and we all know a TD42 sounds, as someone described it somewhere on the forum, like a 13 socket is jiggling around in the sump. This was still evident until the motor had warmed up a little. Thereafter I noticed a distinct noise reduction. The motor sounded a lit quieter. Smoke wise, I think a little less, but not really an easy thing to see from the drivers seat to give an accurate opinion.
What was nice was that when we got to the Ruimsig school and i let the Patrol idle for a brief time there was a distinct yummier smell than the crappy burnt diesel fumes....hahaha. It was definitively not a fish and chip shop smell (thank goodness....hahaha), but more like a sweeter cooking oil smell. This was not off-putting at all .... and I figured I'll be doing the community a service cause all the beggers standing at the robots will now rather use the money they bum for food due to the good aromas than waste it on drugs...

And the best part of it all at R9.00/L (delivered to my house nogal) I am very happy to continue using this in my old school diesel TD42. I don't know how well this will work on a CRD motor, but I hear that the Di motors are ok on it ( with possibly diluting with garage diesel)
The only major issue I can foresee with using bio diesel is the gel-point when very cold weather is experienced. To curb this dilute the bio diesel with more garage diesel.
I'll give you more feedback as the weeks progress....
