Ok gents...after 6+ months of scheming, planning, asking advice, researching for countless hours and scrounging for parts and funds...The day has finally come to start the turbo conversion to my old girl.

I want to thank everyone for all their help, advice and encouragment in advance !

This build will take me a bit of time to complete, but I promise to post all of the pics, along with a complete break down of what I did, why I chose to do it, the suppliers, costs and contact details to possibly help any of those out there who are considering doing the turbo on their vehicles.
Hopefully I can save them a lot of time and headaches.

I've parked my Patrol and the next time she starts up, she won't pull like a constipaded donkey, but rather more like a peed off Rhino on cocaine

I'm only aiming for 130kW.
Not shooting for big power, but rather usable power, so if you're chasing horses you can use my build a guideline.

I'm also making some custom bits for the Patrol that I'll post up for sale to anyone who might be interested, but more on those details when it's done.

Super excited.
So far stripped intake system and the complete exhaust system.
I tried to strip the injector pump off to send to JHB, but hit my first snag...don't have a socket big enough to turn the crank pulley to TDC
Do you perhaps know what size it is so I can borrow or buy one ?

To move the crank, use the power steering pump pulley. I think its a 23mm or thereabouts.

Yes make sure the power steering pump belt is tight then you can turn it with the pupply bolt. Its a size 19

Yip that is the easiest way to turn over the crank.

Just a little something seeing as you are busy with the intake system. Personally I feel the 3.0 airbox is a terrible setup for the Patrol in general on both the 3.0 and on the turbo converted TD42's. Here is why. I have done a load or research on the 3.0 airbox design, and in a nutshell the air speed over the filter medium is way way way too fast due to the gap between the filter and the housing. One needs to slow the air speed down to allow the filter to scrub the air properly. So a different shape or design is needed to create an efficient filtering process.

There are 2 ways to go with this. either by using the same filter as we currently use on the 3.0 airbox, but with a redesigned filter housing to allow the air into the box at whatever speed, and then allow it to slow down before it hits the filter medium. Also take a serious look at the filters too. Greg ( juice ) took 2 different filters manufacturers and cut them open and the length of filter medium between the 2 was something like 2m difference. That is a LOT of missing filter medium.

I have been toying with a filter box that will do all of the above and also with a much more cost effective air filter. Unfortunately it has been on my to do list for a long time, and with so much other stuff to get done around the house,I haven't done much since. When i get a gap I will send you some pics so you can have a look at it.
