As far as I know, and I'm pretty damn sure about this, but the station wagon NEVER came out to SA in a 4.2 with Nissan factory turbo only a N/A TD42 ( TD42 ). Only the Pick Up came out with a factory fitted turbo ( TD42Ti). They stopped producing/supplying South Africa the TD42 stationwagon end of 1999. So it may be that that one is a 1998 or 1999, but only registered in 2000. Prior to 1998 was only the GQ model with a TD42 motor (TD42).
That will definitively be an aftermarket turbo and Intercooler.
Take a pic of the Injector pump too if possible. That will also ensure the pump has the compensator on to deliver the correct fuel for the turbo's demands.
Does it have an EGT gauge fitted? I would be cautious if one is NOT fitted. The aftermarket turbos do push high EGT's and that can cause issues even to the legendary bullet proof TD42 motor.
Def not a factory setup
The thin pipe on the thermostat housing is leading to the turbo for cooling. This means its not a Nissan turbo to start with as they are not water cooled.
Intercooler is also not a TD42 cooler like on the pickups.
Can be a nice buy if all is well on it.
As Cedric said, take a pic of the diesel pump as it will give an indication on the tipe of conversion done
I did stumble onto a very neat 2001 GU 4.5L if anyone knows of someone in the market for a gas guzzler

I'll put it on the Vehicles For Sale board as well.
Dustin, Maybe you can get hold of Frans ( tour de Frans on the forum), He is the TD42 guru in the Cape in my opinion, and he has worked on my Patrol. maybe you can make an arrangement with him to have a look at the Patrol.
As for the top mount IC, I wouldn't stress too much about spending unnecessary money for a system that does work..... he will be able to service and set it up properly for you.
Tell him Cedric told you to get hold of him. He is a really lekker genuine straight up guy !!
