Cedric
Do you know why it smokes so much? I have a friend with a Cruiser that does the same thing and nobody has been able to provide a solution, not even SAC.

You still using 2 stroke? I've recently started again with my diesel Pathy and yes it's MUCH quieter and works within about 5km from filling even on 50ppm

Jorrie... Its just a diesel thing..... :rolling: ..... It doesn't bug me.... just the person behind !!!
My patrol is set to give me lots of low down torque. I can go up quite steep inclines at about 900- 1000 rpm relatively easily. This setting does cause a bit more smoke to come out the exhaust.

I do still use 2 stroke every second tank fill. I'm a firm believer in that. I only use marine 2 stroke, as it's apparently a better quality that normal 2 stroke.... but a bit more expensive.

I have also noticed that on 50ppm there is less smoke and the motor runs much quieter, without 2 stroke, than with 500ppm without 2 stroke.

BTW..... how does Bob Marley like his dounuts?.......... wit jammin..... :rolling: :blonde: :rolling:

I just read this thread.

What an unbelievably epic saga.

Cedric, you have big brass nuts for taking the rebuild on with no previous experience or knowledge.

Frans, you are one damn decent human being!

Thanks man... but if one follows a step one .... step two mentality, then it all falls nicely into place. I think the biggest challenge was the shear weight of these motors...... and the strength needed to torque that head !!! :surprised: :surprised: :surprised: I felt like Arnold Schwarzenegger by the time I was finished :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

Having the feeling that there is a wealth of knowledge here on the forum and of course having the telephonic assistance from Frans was a HUGE confidence boost. That man is a legend without a shadow of a doubt. And I couldn't even buy him a beer when we met up a while after when I went to see my folks in the Cape, cause he doesn't touch alcohol !!!

I must just say that after all these years of driving the Iron Maiden in some serious terrain from deep snow to thick mud, that 4.2 diesel beast has never skipped a beat !!
